Kill The Dealer"service techs"
OK, brought my jk in for it's free oil change, tried to get them to disable the ESP they said that was a no go, they Knew abosolutely nothing about the brake recall {9-17-07} I said ok just do the oil change . Jeep sat at home yesterday , wife drove today ,I drive the jeep and get wiffs of oil smell, I take it as maybe burnt oil dripped on something but know better . I've had 2 CJ's and know the smell of fresh oil hot due to aleaky valve cover gasket etc. Open the hood and Wahlahh, no cap on the valve cover , it's hiding on the air intake box!!! Tommorow someone is getting their A@@ chewed royally, don't know if it will do anything but it will make me feel better. Where do they get these service techs? Off the short school bus maybe?

Make them clean your engine compartment and not use degreasers!

This thread has perfect timing. I took my JK in for its first oil change with the free coupon, on a Wednesday morning and they told me it will take 4 hours!!!!I said nevermind. I drove over to a Quick Lube and paid the $35, they were done in 25 min. Well worth it.

Man, drive to my dealer's in NH for the oil change.
Small place, and the owner of the dealership helps the tech change the oil and rotate the tires, then goes back into his office. There's always a Jeep in pieces you have to step over, they let you in the service bay, and the techs have the most souped-up Jeeps I've ever seen.
They're Jeep Lovers.
I'd avoid the larger dealerships like the plague.

Most of the guys that do your oil changes at the dealer are the newbies or the hourly guys with little experience. Service techs worth their salt don't do oil changes because of what they get paid. It's not cost effective for your senior tech to do this kind of work. However, I know at our place we train our guys to look for the things most newbies miss. Hope you get some resolution to your problem!

The one and only time I took my vehicle in for an oil change by someone besides myself that very same thing happened. I have been doing my own oil changes since I was 16, I am now 47 and still do them. Yea it ain't the funnest thing but at least I know it was not over/underfilled and the oil filler and drain plug were cleaned. I also let it drain out for awhile while the oil is hot. When I was younger we were all gear heads working on our cars. Nowadays things are getting to complicated for my low tech brain.
