Ok, so just to be sure.
You've stopped your car, turned off the engine, and haven't put it in park yet.
This is when I can remove the key from the ignition when the car is still in Drive.

I can't turn the key all the way back if the transmission is still in Drive. Have to put it in Park and then the key will come out. So no, my '12 does not do that.

Yes. Tried various key positions as well...key will not come out unless in park.

Hi,
Forgive me as this may be a dumb question, but this is the first Jeep I have owned.
After I park the car, I can pull out the key when it is in Drive. Is this supposed to happen? I've never seen a car that can do this. Usually, it just prevents the key from being removed.
