I went to the local dump to verify what my JK weighs. I have the usual skids, bumpers, winch, etc. I went to the dump a couple of years ago and it weighed in at 5200. With a trailer that weighs about 400 lbs. No worries, right?

The nice lady on the phone chewing gum and barely noticing me said "5500 lbs". What?? That's just my wife in there!

OK. I'm concerned. The sticker on the door jamb says 5500 lbs is the GVWR. So I went to a certified scale at Pilot. 5320 lbs (nobody in the Jeep). OK, I know what you are thinking. My wife must weigh, well, nevermind. I filled up the gas tank between weight measurements.

This is with the hardtop on, 3/4 tank of gas, a Shrockworks front bumper, Warn Powerplant winch, Purejeep rear bumper + tire carrier, Rock Hard skid engine skid plate, Tuffy Security Deck, 35" BFG KM2s, and a few other odds and ends. The usual stuff.

Here's the rub - at 5320 lbs, I can't even get into the Jeep without busting the 5500 lb GVWR!! (yes, I weigh more than 180 lbs, thank you).

How many of you have busted through your GVWR with mods? Seems way too easy to do.

Holy $#!+... thats crazy! I'm rolling stock rubber and suspension with RR XHD bumpers front and rear with a winch on my JKU. I wonder what my rig is pushing.
Looks like a trip to the scrap yard (for the scales) is in my future.

 

yup! mine's 5200 pounds like it sits full of gas.

 

5300lbs ...full tank, me + wife, winch and smittybilt front bumper, 33" MT's.......sick

 

5600 with me on board on truck scales at my work Saturday night. 4dr, 35's, rockhard front and rear bumpers and full skid plates, poison spyder sliders, ORF cage. No wonder that 3.8 sucks gas.

And some complain about the 3.8L engine, the poor thing is doing all it can.
