okay, i got the jeep to heat up again today and didnt hear the fan turn on. i tried turning the airconditioning on to get the fan to try to cool the condensor. no luck. do u guys know how i can troubleshoot the fan? whats its electrical route? where can i find where the fan wires are run so i can check them? thanks in advance.

could it be something as simple as a bad fuse?

at highway speed should the jeep be able to make a 3 hour drive home to the garage without the fan if i cant fix it here?

Not sure how to test the fan besides checking the fuse and connection to the wiring assembly. I guess if you had a mutlimeter you could see the voltage coming from the and of the connection to determine if the fan is toast or the relay to the fan.

A lot of factors go into that drive, heat of the day, how far you have to drive locally before you get on the highway, etc. Once you are going 55 mph you should be good to go though.

I always check the easy stuff first. Fuses are pretty simple. You can probably swap it with another one.

Fans can be tough because if it is going bad the fan may kick on for a while then seize up.

Worse come to worse you just pull over and let the car cool down. Bring a jug of water to refill the reservoir. Might take you a while but you should make it.

If you're trying to drive without your cooling fan, here are a couple thoughts:

1. Run your heater. That probably sounds nuts in August, but it will lower coolant temp some.

2. Don't run your air conditioner--your engine doesn't need the additional load right now.

3. Carry a bottle of pre-mix Chrysler (and ONLY Chrysler) anti-freeze. If you boil over, use it instead of just plain water (using plain water will lower your boiling point, just making a repeat of the boil over happen that much more quickly).

4. No one has mentioned checking your thermostat. If you're certain it's the fan, then the thermostat is probably good. But, if the thermostat is stuck closed, it will stop your antifreeze from flowing, eventually causing a boil-over. This includes highway driving. You can pull the thermostat out and run your Jeep without it. Because the coolant doesn't stop flowing, your engine will run cooler, your heater won't get as hot, and you'll be polluting more. But, I've know folks who drove for years without a thermostat.

If your jeep is an 08 this was covered under a factory recall. ask ur dealer about it.
