Default JK Top Speed

The question of just how fast I should drive on the highway in a Wrangler? On my visor it says to avoid excess speeds.

This being my first Wrangler I am not quite sure what a safe speed to get around on the Interstate is.

I have nearly new Goodyear SRA 17'' tires and every other componet is standard.

Thanks Folks!

Default 80

I usually do go over 80 but that is my comfort level. I have seen what happens when you are going over 80 and blow a tire.

*Flame Suit On*

*I do not condone illegal activity*

Ok, that aside, I have mine frequently over 90 without a problem (except low mpg). A properly set up rig shouldn't have any difficulties at highway speeds. I have a 4" lift and 35's.

Drive it like you stole it. Hammer down and go as fast as you wish. I prefer the speed limit but every once in a while I've pushed 80 but that is my comfort zone and don't want a ticket.

It's not the speed, it's the stopping and avoidance factor with other 'dumbass' drivers and animals, etc. a Jeep is not designed for high speed manoeuvring (top heavy and short wheel base), but with that said if all is clear 80 mph is my zone.

Start out slow. Once you get used to the way it handles, add a couple of MPH. If you start out at say 55 MPH, and add 5 MPH per week, in a month you'll be doing about 75 MPH. In a year, 315 MPH . But remember the visor warning is there because you bought a vehicle designed to defy the laws of physics at low speed on dirt, not at high speed on pavement.

I drive like an old man, usually right at the speed limit. Mine's never been over 75 mph (I love American interstates for that reason!!!)

X2...Although there have been many improvements in recent years the fact is that Wranglers are still one of the worst when it comes to high speed evasive maneuvers. Your in a hurry?drive something else.
