Looks like I'm with the majority in the "other" category. I either carry a Kimber Custom Classic in .45 ACP or, in the summer when wearing light clothes, I carry an AMT Backup single action in .380 ACP. I will have had my carry permit for thirty years next month and never had a need to unholster a weapon other than at the range. The wife and I shoot weekly to stay sharp, just in case. When people ask me why I carry, am I expecting trouble, I ask them if they have a fire extinguisher in their kitchen. When the answer is yes, I ask if they are expecting to have a fire. That usually ends the discussion.

Don't know any civilians who have been in a gunfight. My dad -early in his career as a cop- brought a metal tape dispenser to a gunfight. He disabled the guy by throwing the dispenser as hard as he could and hitting the guy in the chest with it. My knife trumps his tape dispenser
