If they actually go through with the CRD on the JK's, I really think it would be a great daily driver around town. If they do decide to bring this to the states. Id gladly buy one after I finish the TJ, which may be awhile, and retire the TJ as a DD and keep it as a trail rig.

From what i gather from other forums is that if it doesn't weight at least 8k lbs. and isn't a truck, it isn't available in CA.
I know VW jetta TDI is no longer sold in CA. I think thats why.
Anybody know the weight on the JK?

Wrangler X, Man. / Auto Trans. 3760 lbs. / 3785 lbs.
Wrangler Sahara, Man. / Auto Trans. 3951 lbs. / 3976 lbs.
Wrangler Rubicon, Man. / Auto Trans. 4104 lbs. / 4129 lbs.
However, I was under the impression that a diesel would be introduced to satisfy CAFE standards. And, I have a pretty good source that has confirmed that one would be available here in CA in 2008. But, who knows for sure.

The CRD is a great daily driver
The CRD is a great daily driver. Whilst I've never driven a gas powered Wrangler, I did have 4.0L V8 Discovery, and the Jeep is a better driver with more power!
The Mercedes Auto box with tiptronic is as good as a manual when you want to use it, and the 460ftlbs of torque is MORE than enough.
I've dragged off a few boy wonders at traffic lights in the JK and I've surprised myself (and them!) at just how fast it can accelerate.
The JK Diesels we have in Australia now conform to the Eurospec 5 emision standards which I would have thought were even more stringent than Ca regs.
Its a shame you guys can't have them, but be assured that we enjoying them on your behalf!
