You can do it with something between the hood and windshield. Otherwise you will get some scratches.

I would not let anyone do that to my jeep.If i need it all the way open you must put a soft cloth between the hood and windshield.but i would not trust anyone else to do that.and with no cloth between the two they are not being careful they are careless.
