Jeep Jamboree 09
#3
I've never been to a jeep jamboree. I can hit an orv park for $20/day so what exactly will I get for $200/person? Generally speaking that is, I understand that each one will have area specific activities.

I recommend that you try a Jeep Jamboree
Denny,
Since 1999, I have participated in 15 Jeep Jamborees. I did the Appalachian JJ in Murphy, NC , 10-12 Oct and Borrego Springs, CA, 17-19 Oct, this year. Yes, there was only a week between those two events. So why do I keep going back year after year? So what do you get for $200 per person?
- JJ's bring together Jeepers from all over the country. At the Appalachian JJ, folks came from 28 states. At the Borrego Springs JJ, there were folks there from eight states. The common denominator? They all love Jeeps and off-roading. They are good solid citizens, most with families and some senior citizens as old as their late 80's. It is the most exciting cross section of America you will ever see. When my youngest son and I did the Sea of Cortez JJ, several years ago, in the Jeep ahead of us was a Waste Management Specialist (aka garbage collector) and in the Jeep following us was a recent Nobel Prize winner for medicine. It doesn't get any better than that.
- There are several different levels of JJs. The basic, "Trails only" JJs, includes only the evening meal. You must furnish your own breakfast and lunch. This is usually around $200 per person. The standard JJ, usually $225 to $250 per person, includes three meals a day. There are also luxury JJs that include everything including lodging, gourmet food and the use of a new Jeep. they cost about $2,000 per person. Next year, 2009, there will be a new level of JJ which will be at least seven days long and be far more extensive in the events they offer. I don't know the cost of these events. I think the first one will be on the east coast, starting in NC with off roading events in three different states.
- Your cost also includes event permits and insurance, which can be significant.
- If you decide to participate in the Rubicon Trail JJ, your cost includes Jeep mechanics, parts and a helo to fly the parts and mechanic to you if you break down on the trail. This service cost you nothing.
- At each JJ, there is a drawing on Saturday evening that includes such prizes as a Ramsey winch, four Good Year LT tires of your choice, A Cobra CB radio, a Hi-Lift Jack, plus a dozen, or so, lesser prizes for your Jeep.
- But the best part of each JJ are the Trail Guides that will guide you through each trail, offer professional level spotting, and help you out if you break down
on the trail. These folks are usually from a local Jeep clubs and know the local trails and history which will make your JJ more enjoyable.
- There are also additional costs for lodging. You can camp, stay at a RV park or stay at a motel. The motel usually costs about $100 a night. Camping and the RV park costs far less.
The bottom line is that JJs are good clean fun. You will meet folks from all over the country who love their Jeep and off roading as much as you do. If you are new to Jeeping, there will be a lot of folks who will help you at every turn. With any luck, I will participate in two JJs next year.
