Though I agree that a 1-2mpg increase is small, I don't think the real intention with this engine change was fuel economy. It was directed at fixing an engine that didn't have the umph that 'some' people wanted.

I myself have no real significant issues with the 3.8 as I bought a Jeep and not a car. When i'm wheeling my 4.10's do what I need em to do.

No one should buy a Wrangler if your looking for good fuel economy!

I could care less about the hp numbers. Curious as to how the torque curve looks though.

I don't understand why everyone is confused. The new engine is much more efficient since it has ~80 hp more without sacrificing a single MPG loss. The terrible MPG is the result of brick shaped land yacht JK body and 4x4 driveline. Put the JK engine and transmission in a Corvette and you will see over 30 mpg.

I don't know about everyone else, but a 5% fuel mileage increase AND a 40% HP increase seems fairly substantial to me. Guess we'll have to wait for a drive review.

Not worth it if you are considering trading in your used JK and take a kicking with the upgrades and mods a person added

IMHO it would be worth taking that money you lose on trade-in and look at a RIPP Supercharger addition! Get an extra 100HP out of the 3.8L and modified tunes and to boot probably better fuel economy then the 3.6L pentastar.

True...with a RIPP you could do better...that is, until RIPP releases their kit for the 2012. They already have one in development.

LOL, I was just thinking the same thing. @ a 40% increase in power out of the box, I can only assume at this point, that the driveability for those of us in the Mountains will be much improved...and once RIPP gets on board with this new setup, it will be nice to haul a$$ when you want to.

Heck, put the 3.6l in a Neon, and get 60 mpg! Why didn't Chrysler think of that? Lets sell them the idea, for a bargain price of $50 per vehicle! Partners?
