Seems silly. Any vehicle can start a brush fire if the undercarriage is exposed to tall, dead grass or brush while the vehicle is hot. I've seen police cruisers start fires that way. Sounds like an insurance company trying to recoup some funds it had to pay out. They do know what "skid" means, right?

Apart from that recall -
The first time I found packed dry grass between the skid and the hot exhaust, there was so much of it, that I thought I was lucky it didn't actually touch hot metal.
That was after quite a few drives over such grass.
I use a blower to clean that place after driving on dry vegetation.
I think that the skid is more of a heat shield then a problem, especially if the Jeep is stopped.

That is a FJ. Most be a random google picture. Lol.
The hole thing is BS. Any vehicle could do that. If I remember the recall was because overheating the trany would result in trany fluid that would stay in the skid plate and could start a fire. Right?

Pretty sure there was a recall done by Jeep for this. Now if the owner never did the recall, then Jeep is not responsible.
Yeah here it is....

Just an FYI: USAA is a beloved insurance company that only offers coverage to military and veterans of the military, as well as the family members of those connected to the military.
