If you find the guys who did this, let me know!

Sorry to hear about your situation. I don't know why but it still amazes me at the lengths people will go to and what drives them to commit crimes. It's crazy what people will take too, I've had dirty bandanas stolen from my old CJ as well as had the seatbelts cut and trash left in it. What bugs me the most is that I had my front driveline stolen before and it sucks to think that another Jeep owner most likely did it. But with all that said I'm grateful that on all occassions, even home burglaries, that I nor my family were present at the time. Protecting my family is one thing but to have to take a life over possessions would just be silly.

I had the top of a half door (soft) swapped with one that had a broken zipper. Yes that is correct. They took my good window and went to the trouble of replacing it with their old busted window. The Jeep community is awesome but there is at least 1 in every crowd.

Same damn thing happened to my YJ. Some a$$wipe bent the window frame back on the soft top to get into the UNLOCKED Jeep. I guess nobody ever said you had to be smart to be a thief.

So fucking sorry to hear man! I always leave my vehicles unlocked. Learned the hard way years ago when the lock was pried out of my XJ to steal my stereo. $600-800 door and paint job for a $400 stereo. Just not worth the cost of repairing the Jeep. Take what you want, but leave my Jeep alone. :(

This is the best answer. With the softtop, a pocket knife is a key. The only exception is a brief foray into a place while you have valuables in the Jeep. You're confident that no one will take out a knife because it would be too obvious. But, they might be willing to open the door and take out that Best Buy bag you've carefully placed in the back seat. Other than that, don't lock the Jeep. If you must for security, get a hardtop, because a locked softtop is not really secure.

X2 on the "knife key"
Over the last 16 years I've lost thousands of dollars by owning soft top jeeps. (Snowboards, jackets, tools, stereos, and once when I parked it over the weekend for a backpacking trip I lost my front seats and my battery). I finally wised up and bought a hard top jeep. Anytime I take off the doors or top now it's only to work and home.

You can do what I do leave everything unlocked and don't leave anything of value in the Jeep. The only thing in my glove box is the owners manual, registration, insurance, a dollar store flashlight and a cheapo tire pressure gauge.
In my center console arm rest I have my winch controller. Probably the most expensive thing in the jeep.

Damn... If that happened to me, the shotgun would be loaded ready to shoot the tires off of any golden spitfire available in sight! Gods luck find him and and making that piece of s**t pay for a new soft top because he thought he was good enough to mess with you!
