Default I smell gas.......

As I'm driving on the freeway I smell gas, but thought it was the car in front and never gave it much thought up until I arrived at my destination and then the odor was there as I opened the door and exited the Jeep. My 1st thought was to check for leaks ( it was snowing so maybe I could spot a drop or two ), check under the hood and the gas cap...nothing.
I called the Service Dpt. at my local stealership and was in luck as they closed at 8PM and it was around 5, so they were willing to look at it but I had to wait.
After a short wait of 30 minutes the Service Tech says that they found no leaks, loose gas lines and all was normal but the CAI could be the reason as that would be the place were the fumes are escaping.... , anyways he said he wouldn't make a note on the service slip because it could void the warranty...
Well it's funny how I've had the CAI for 1900 miles of the 1980 miles on the odometer and is the 1st time I detected gas fumes....
I'm going to keep an eye out or nose for any other instances of gas fumes and see if it's really coming out of the "cone filter"...anyone else had this happen to them?..

I'm surprised they never said anything about the CAI when the Rubi was re flashed or the time the sales guy brought out the mechanic ( buddy of his) when I stopped in to pick up the parts I had ordered and he wanted to see it...

Thanks

The tech actually said he thought the gas fumes were going out of the intake while driving on the freeway??? Talk about grasping at straws...

exactly.....it's an intake not an exhaust..... anyway I have the work order from them saying they found nothing and there is no mention of the intake as well....that one gets saved on my safe just in case "something" happens down the road....maybe I have a carburated engine and I don't know it....

Just keep a close eye...err nose...out for the smell returning. I ignored a gas smell on a Mazda RX-7 and ended up with a rolling marshmellow roast a couple of days later!

I used to smell gas when I would start my suburban. Turned out to be a sticky fuel injecter? It's a thought???

Make sure the rubber seal on your gas cap is on properly. Just had this happen on the wifes car last week. I smelled gas, then the smell went away. A couple a days later ......the check eng. light comes on !! I look in the mannual , it says check gas cap.... WAHHHLAAA , the rubber gasket was on cockeyed , part of it was on the thread part . Check yours..........

That was the 1st thing I did before I called the dealer and also I opened the hood to see if the smell was coming from there......anyway thanks for all your responses, like I said it was snowing and I wasn't about to crawl around under the JK and this weekend we have below freezing temps....damn do I need a garage.....

You know too it would be to coincidental that on the freeway I could very well had been following a vehicle that indeed had a gas leak and when I arrived at an Auto Parts store the old LTD I happened to park next to, could have been there stinking up the lot....what are the chances???....
