I don't think that I have seen a thread like this before, so here's a copy of an entry that I posted on a different thread.

I have 275/70-17 Duratracks with 40,000 miles on them. I spent a lot of time doing the chalk test over and over for the span of several days when the tires were new. long story short, after 40,000 miles my outside vs. center tread wear is only 1/64 off.

chalk test is worth the time spent.

'09 unlimited Rubi, 30 lbs in each tire and rotate every 5000 miles current tread depth is 11/32nds and I think that they were 19/32nds new,

I should note that I didn't use chalk, I put a piece of 2" wide masking tape. the progress of how it's wearing off is more gradual and can be observed over many miles.

Funny since I just measured it and changed my front driver side with my spare...
Now both my front tires have 13mm and both my rear tires and the spare have 11mm.
14700 miles, 1yr 8 months old.... ALOT of off road..
Closer to getting a tire upgrade. Tires are stock 32's

With that said I don't really know how long a set should last with as much off road driving I've done.

I got 36,000 out of my OEM BFG's, mostly street wear and 2 winters.

I am impressed enough with the stock Rubi BFG's that I am going to soon replace with the same. At about 40k on them and they still have some life left. Could probably have got 60k if I had was easier on the skinny pedal.

They do decent in the mud and since I have them siped, they are not bad in the ice and snow either.

33" treadwright retreads. Sold with 40k miles and around 40% tread left. I will never buy a different brand.

i am pretty hard on tires and I am very happy with my Maxxis Bighorns, great rid, not too noisy, they wear pretty good, and can't beat the price.
