I went with the second option. I hit some fairly easy muddy or somewhat rocky trails from time to time. I don't have a lot of money so it's not heavily modded and I don't have the skills to fix much myself. I'm slowly modding it and I'm hoping that by the time it's paid off it'll have everything it needs for harder use and I'll have a lot more knowledge from modding and tinkering.

DD and heavy mods. hate mud and hate "trails". 4-6 wheeling "trips" per year, but they are all hardcore rock climbing, bash fests. Drive, wheel, bash, repair, repeat...

I usually have to do a "little" offroading 2-3 times a week to get into some of my field locations, nothing hardcore, but often requires some four wheel drive. Other than that not too much except for vacations or field trips a few ties a year. Between our 3 month old son, my Ph.D. Work, consulting, and the honey-do's I keep pretty busy (yet I find tie to read this stuff, hmmm?) Fortunately my work/study gets me outdoors plenty in ne Oklahoma, nw Arkansas, and sw Missouri.
So if anyone in those areas sees some moron parked at the side of the road in a jeep with OK plates that looks like mine, climbing around on road cuts, and staring intently at rocks and hitting them with a hammer, well, that is probably me.
