I'd say stock and stick you might be able to get close if you drove 60 and were on the highway for a long enough time but on a daily, no way in Hell would you see those numbers consistently.

Depends on how slow you want to drive .

I have done the same drive of about 100 highway miles several times at different speeds. Traffic was light and the cruise control was on for almost the whole trip each time. Measured each speed 2 or 3 times, so the mpg is the average:

75 mph - 18.2 mpg
70 mph - 18.9 mpg
65 mph - 19.7 mpg
60 mph - 21 mpg (only did this one once )

2012, 2-door Sahara, stock tires, 3.73 auto

Your 60 mph number blows me away. We did exactly the same thing and got 5 mpg difference. Can't believe the engine makes that much diffference. Similar engine size, same brick, same speed. Indy is not at high altitude.

Is your Sahara a soft top?
Could fuel be different there?
Was wind a factor?

I've checked the mpg computer a few times. Its dead on when I use it right over longish distances.

That one continuous run was the only time I've seen more than 26, but 24-25 is common. I mostly drive 60. Don't hold it against me - I'm retired and in no hurry anymore

How well will the stock Jeep do as far as mpg on this route? I am thinking of getting the 3.73 gears and the S package and keeping it at that without any big mods.
I appreciate someone saving gas, primarily so there's more for me to burn...

Seriously though, are you that stretched financially that you're calculating your MPG's with consideration given to the first and last miles?

If not, I'm impressed with your tenacity. I have a friend that's been calculating every gas fill and mile driven since the 1960's. He also measures the temperature in his house that's created by leaving the second floor windows open 2 inches, and the vortex of cool air it creates when operating a fan on the first floor...

All documented for his own satisfaction... I'm in awe of his scientific mind.

If you guys are depending on the mileage displayed on the dash, guaranee it's optimistic by at least 1-2mph. Hand calculated is the only fairly accurate way.

I appreciate all the input! It looks like 20 is fairly easy, 22 with more work (slower driving), and anything over 23 is a fluke
