How to find a shop to do work?
Okay, I'm very cautious about where I bring my vehicle for work. For little things (water pump, radiator, alternator, etc.) I'll do the work myself (weather permitting... winter is freezing.... 10* here today, with 30 mph gusts of wind, and no garage!) or enlist my neighbor (Mr. Shadetree Brake expert) to do the work.
Bigger things, I've never had to deal with really.
As I start planning out my spring projects for the JK, I can only help but wonder, how do you guys find shops to do your work? More specifically, Gears and tire work.
I can put in my own lift kit. But I don't even want to get near gears (in fact, I had any work involving vehicular fluids... ). And for tires? I usually go to costco, since their "Buy here, and we'll repair your tire for life at no charge" rule is sweet. But I doubt they handle 33's or 35's (or anything their computers say wont fit on your vehicle).
What should I look for? I don't want to be scammed, or left with more problems than when i started!

I do everything I can myself as well but for what you can't do go to someone you trust. I prefer the local shop owner type of places. Everyone I've ever gone to does good work because they rely on you coming back. Personally, I wouldn't ever take my car to any sort of place like Wal-Mart, or Sams Club, or BJ's, or Costco, for anything. But that's just me, I know a lot of folks do.

Check with some other local jeepers or a local jeep club. See who they use. Another good place to ask around at are car shows and race tracks. All of those people are very careful about who they let work on their vehicle, so they should be able to give you some reccommendations.
