I waited for a smokin deal and bought a 2-dr X model instead. Sure its a base model, but I picked it up last February brand new for $17k out the door and 0% financing for 4 years. Now I can use those $34k-$39k numbers as leverage everytime I want to upgrade something on my JK

Ever hear about the guy in the news named Prebul? I must have caught him at a bad time when he needed money in a bad way. I ordered a Rescue Green Sahara hard top (had to order the hard top at the time because all you could find then was soft) and settled on $25K. I couldn't afford a Rubi and my wife liked the Sahara fenders better. Since then it's been a slow build. 2 in. lift, wheels and tires, then Shrockworks front and rear bumpers.

Bottom line: If you can discipline yourself to live with what you have after you've finished up the payments (the F-150 was nine years old when I bought the Jeep), but continue making the payments into a smart investment, you'll be ahead. Then, don't stop making those payments. Once you're ahead, stay ahead and always buy new vehicles with cash. I've been doing it for over twenty years now, with three cash vehicle purchases under my belt. Trust me: There's no greater satisfaction then when the financing guy at the dealership asks, "How do you plan to finance this?" you answer, "Well, will you take a personal check, or would you rather I bring a bank draft?"

Why I bought an X. $19,500 out the door, brand new 1 mile in 2008. Build it slowly and surely. For $35k, I could easily build an X with 60s, 40s, Atlas, and all that good stuff vs. hybrid 44 up front, 44 in the rear, and 4:1 in the case.
