Default How do I know which front axle I have?

I've been reading more and found that it may not be safe to install 35's on Dana 30 front axles?

Is this true?

If you put a 2.5" BB on an X with 35's, are you in some kind of danger of the axle breaking?

I have an X.

Okay, so now that I know.. everyone appears to be lifting their X's with 2.5" BB's from Teraflex and putting on 35's.

Is this Dana 30 axle in any danger of breaking because of the larger tires?

From what i've heard and read the 30 is pretty strong and you should be fine as long as you don't abuse it.

Abuse is a relative term.

What kind of "abuse" are we talking about? I had planned on lifting my JK and putting on larger tires and wheeling it.. but I'd like to now get an idea of the kind of "abuse" we're talking about?

Rock crawling - Too much?
Deep mud - Too much?
Rough dirt terrain (Kentucky ) - too much?

etc?

Or do you mean like ramping it off stuff and making it fall 8 feet?

Well i do rocks on mine, love the mud and mine has held up great. When i say abuse it i mean you have to use a little more finesse and a little less skinny pedal.

Thanks for the info.

Now I'm nervous about spinning my tires.

On a scale of 1 to 10 on how "easy" it is to break.. how rugged would you guys rate a Dana 30 axle.. and how rugged would you rate the Dana 44's?

I can't really answer that because i've never broken either of the two.

Any idea what the rear axle is then? Same?

Sorry for all the questions. My brain is like Number-5 from Short Circuit.

MORE INPUT!
