No I'm for "Da Bears", not GB. It was a cold day, but GB got their heads handed to them. It was worth the road trip and the hood dancing all the way.

man, thanks for this thread. I never searched for this problem although I was driving down the highway doin' about 70 with 2 passengers packed (seriously jammed) into my JK with a sh&t load of new furniture (IKEA) boxes and the hood started jumping. It was bad enough that i couldn't see outta' the mirrors and had the drivers seat all the way forward. I thought the hood was coming up. CRAZY!

Dang! I thought "hood dancing" was jeep-speak for table dancing. This thread is a total disappointment!

It's definitely worse in the JK (probably because of the thinner, lighter sheet metal), but my TJ did this also. I think the spring removeal is a good solution for most, but you may need to do more if you live in an area that really gets major headwind. I know the worst I ever encountered it in either Jeep was on the highway in eastern Colorado and Wyoming.

I made the mod and had the chance to try it out last weekend, it worked perfect, I had a strong head wind as well as passing several semis. Not one time did the hood dance. DC needs to incorporate this into new straps.

Thanks again for the tip.

LOL, this will kill some of you, but I remember years and years ago there was an option for a leather hood strap. I think it was mounted about 1/3 back from the grill.

Looked cool too, you just knew they meant serious business.

I guess I need to watch my hood a little more closely, because I haven't noticed it moving at all. If fact, on Monday I was clipping along at speeds between 60 & 70 MPH with a head wind that was gusting to around 30mph and didn't notice anything but the fact that I was driving a brick.

It hood dancing seems to be worse if the head winds are are hitting about a 45 degree angle to the front of the vehicle. It's hard to believe that a small nylon strap can make such a huge difference, but its a definite fix. I bought a pack of 14 inch straps, made the mod and appreciate this forum for the tip.

I never had dancing at higher speeds, or wind. But, when meeting semi's on my local heavily traveled 2 lane, the hood would fly up against the safety catch, then slam down. Some think my tie strap fix isn't needed, but for me, it absolutely, positively, HAD to be done.

Also, I've read of a few of the rubber links breaking. If you're in the right environment, and the safety latch fails for any reason, you'll be eating the hood, right after the windshield.
