Here it is again...the Tornado (in a Jeep)
So does it work or not? I'm second guessing after this ABC report but I'm still inclined to think it's BS.

I'd be hesitant as well. Ok it works at a constant speed of 60 mph with no braking and no traffic and no fluctuation in RPMs. The thing is most modern ECM's measure the amount of air coming into the intake and dispense fuel accordingly. I'm not so sure this Tornado would work just by putting it on. If it did, all the car companies would be putting them on.

I have no info to back this up, but I've read in several threads that this "tornado" idea is already used in most modern vehicles, our JK's included. This is an old clip on an old Jeep. While the "tornado" concept may actually prove to be an effective one, I'd want to see it installed and tested on an 08' Jeep before I believed it would work for us.

Popular Mechanics tested a few devices, and one of them was the tornado. This is what they had to say;
"THE DYNO SAYS: Both devices reduced peak horsepower by more than 10 percent. The Intake Twister increased fuel consumption by about 20 percent; the TornadoFuelSaver provided no significant change."
In addition they also tested some other devices. The story can be found here.

It's a pretty good read.

On a dyno that is not applying any load to the engine I'd say 48 mpg is possible. You have to factor that the rolling resistance is cut in half (front tires not rolling) and the biggest thing, there is no drag/wind resistance (vehicle not moving). So real world, no it is not possible to get 48 mpg in that vehicle unless you lived in a vacuum. But that leads to a whole bunch of other problems.

Don't newer engines have their own spiral action? So this tornado thing-a-ma-bob would throw that outta wack and decrease performace, and increase gas consumtion right?
So maybe for an older vehicle, but not our mini-van engines...
