There may not be a big enough market for a bigger company to work on this too hard.
I think Camp Crocker lines his hardtops but in leather, probably uses an industrial permanent adhesive.

Ok I know it probably wouldn't look good.... but paint the top white or something. It would reflect the heat VERY well. I know you wouldn't want to paint the entire top white, but what about a rectangle section about an inch from the edge inside of the sides? That way if your Jeep is tall like mine, you wouldn't even see its painted unless viewed from above.

Just a thought!

Cant do that to a soft top, though.

Spoke to Camp. He does leather or vinyl in the hard tops. Nothing in the soft tops. I PM'd medcop:

I do custom sewing on nylon webbing and various other types of equipment for the dive business (SCUBA) including making custom harness, stage bottle kits, mods to exsiting equipment..and so on. (I am a ER Nurse to pay the bills, the sewing is just a hobby business)

What I am getting at is that I can sew. While I have never thought of making a soft top liner I am not against taking on the challenge.

What I would need to know:

1) What type of material would a person want it made out of?

2) What type of attachment points would be preferred? (I would think nylon straps and velcro attachments at various points but open to suggestions)

3) Any other ideas or suggestions would be great.

I guess I could start a new thread on this, but figured it fit here for now. Oh, and I can also do embroidery (have an industrail machine) so it could have a "cool" logo.

Got no response. I'd like to put our heads together and come up with a good solution that is for hard and soft tops that is reproducible and maybe even marketable. I think I have some good ideas.

I may take it to a custom interior fab place and put something together.

Just need to get my rig from SLC first.

The only thing I could think of for a soft top is heat reflecting insulation sewed in some lightweight cloth (kind of like a big potholder). I figure on 2 pieces (one that covers from the soundbar forward and one back) attached to the soft top bows with velcro straps or plastic buckles that you can adjust tension. It would have to be easy to remove so you can fold down the soft top properly.... Just have to give the dimensions to a good seamstress...

I've got a hardtop, I've got "off-Road Heroes" velcro top, I've got JC Whitney Thermal-acoustic insulation, I've posted this system 5 times on this forum

If you NEED something else, it's your jeep, so make your own mod!!!

there are lots of different solutions

Get one of those aluminized mylar "space blankets" you often see in survival kits and attach it up between the bows and the top. Put the shiny side up, it will act like a radiant barrier.

For you and Medcop...I would suggest starting with an "army" poncho liner. They appear to be the exact same concept that available insulating liners are. They are basically a layer of thinsulate between two polyester layers sowed in a quilted pattern. Now how they attach to the soft top I am not quite sure. None of the pictures of the insulators show how they attach in a soft top, only a hard top. But a poncho liner would be where I would suggest to start.

As for using the emergency blanket, I would be wary of what that would do to the bottom (inside) layers of the soft top as the amount of heat would be intense.

I'm here...been away (working) for a couple days and can't get on the forum all the time from work. Our hospital restricts message forums from time to time and have to look hard to find a computer that will work.

Anyway... I am open to trying something....anything.

I live in SW Florida and it is getting HOT! I have a black Unlimited that with the black top and well... (insert dog panting smiley here)

My '04 mustang has a simple liner in it that is less than 1/4" thick. In fact I would say most likely 1/16" and it does a great job. It appears to be some type of felt and is basic in appearance.

Making the liner is the easy part. Deciding on material and attachment is the hard part. In my Mustang it doesn't touch the actual convert top in all places so a "dead air space" would probably actually help in the few places that you couldn't make it touch the Jeep top.

The ideas I am thinking of would have the install done on a top removed from the Jeep. They should allow you to fold the top halfway back and all the way back with no problem, but that all depends on clearance and material used in relation to amount of "scrunch" the material has.

redrock...I pm'd you back with my cell number and so on.
