If the neck and back pain were the result of chronic conditions, improper posture, etc - that *might* be sound advice.

The absolute WORST thing you can do after potentially traumatic injury is to head to some guy that very well may make things a LOT worse.

I would go so far to say that if you show up at a chiropractor after an auto accident and he treats you rather than sends you to a hospital - he is guilty of malpractice.

START at the hospital, if the medical TEAM recommends chiropractic theory then consider it.

Since you where the ones who got hit, don't worry about the medical insurance to much. The person who hit you, their insurance, that is if they have any, past experience, should cover you. If not I think you auto should cover you. The military should also cover you, except ambulance if you live in an area that you have to pay for that service. That was the case we had with our accident.

You should have gone to the hospital right off the back, if anything to get checked out and documented. Going later could look negative if you do end up with injuries. Hoping that you guts don't.

Jeep should be your last worry. It's replaceable, you aren't. My old partners husband was a cop who got rear ended on duty. Completely destroyed his back at 25 years old. Don't treat a back or neck injury lightly.

As much as I like my chiropractor, I would avoid one till a back and neck specialist has checked you and okayed you to go to a chiropractor. Plus a good chiropractor won't see you until your doctor has giving you the ok. That was the situation was ours.

Hope you're doing okay. You've got some great recommendations so far. I just wanted to add that you should have a professional check out your jeep frame. Getting hit in the hitch even at a slow speed can bend your frame.

We are good, still some back pain here and there, but nothing too bad. Jeep is OK

The exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. The Jeep headrest that is about as soft as a brick doesn't help much when rear ended. I hope you get feeling better soon. Make sure that the insurance company includes replacement of your trailer hitch even if it looks ok. Towing in the future is not something you want to fail on you.

Probably not a good idea. You have a new injury, and the last thing you want to be doing is manipulating an area that has fresh trauma. You most likely will tie up a bit tonight and into tomorrow, and your physician can prescribe meds such as Vicodin for pain, or Carisoprodol for muscle relaxation. If he/she feels it is warranted, they can do a flexion/extension X ray on your necks to check for ligamentous injuries, though probably not likely considering the speed involved. Chiro can't do any of these. It doesn't take much to injure the muscles in your neck, and may take a few weeks for it to be back to normal. Sorry to hear about your injuries, Jeep as well. Good luck. Mabye you are right, I am by no means an expert on this stuff. I just know chiropractors are experts on bones, nerves and joints, especially the neck and back. My local chiropractor has an x-ray machine too. Vicodin isnt going to fix any damage done in an accident, it will just mask it.

It's not masking, it's treating. Pain is a very serious issue, and it can cause a multitude of issues if not taken seriously. The pain won't be masked when the MD sees these two people for the first time, when the assessment is performed. "Masking" is giving analgesics prior to an assessment, making it more difficult to assess and diagnose, such as paramedics giving morphine in the field for abdominal pain prior to an MD seeing the patient. Will it fix it, nope, neither will Carisoprodol. But, there's no extra brownie points at the end of the game because you suffered unnecessarily.
