Vanity plates cost $25 in AZ, but our regular fees are out of control, I'm dreading when I need to renew as it'll cost about $500. My plates say GCNPHKR (Grand Canyon National Park Hiker)

Wow - that's REALLY specific... I'm guessing you didn't have to fight anyone else to get those! If I saw that on the road and didn't have your explanation, I'd swear you found a way to sneak "f*cker" into the end of the plate without the DMV catching it!

you'd be amazed at how many variations I had to try to get something in about hiking the Grand Canyon. I hadn't noticed the PHKR until I received the plates, I'm quite shocked that didn't get flagged. Now of course I have people ask "WHAT DOES YOUR PLATE SAY!?"
