gear install.. how much should i pay?

Point taken. Most of these threads are rather generic on "install". I guess I would have been less confused if the OP said "...how much it should cost for labor for a competent shop to install gears..."
Now if smbundy13 could clarify - does "install" simply mean labor (i.e. you'll supply the parts) or are you asking what it takes for the whole enchilada?

...really, it's not that bad, I mean if I can do it, anyone can...and actually...I would say it's probably a little easier than some installs because there's no need to constantly pull the carrier bearings to chagne shims, the shims are located on the outside of the bearings which in my opinion saves a little time, and no need for carrier set up bearings...the pinion still needs 'em, but I personally think alot of shops are over charging for this

How good are you with tools? Are you mechanically inclined?
How strong is your patience and your attention to detail?
Do you have a shop with a work bench or just a driveway?
On a scale of 1-10 if installing a lift kit is 5, IMO this job is a 7-8.

Had good luck with Desert Rat for other work done - they did my gears and an s-load of other work.

I had mine done at Absolute Offroad. Ask for Joe - the owner. He runs a great 4x4 job and has personally done many gear swaps.

Local guy who was highly recommended by several people that have re geared is $200 per axle. He works out of his home garage so he has no overhead. Local shop that was also recommended is $300 per axle. Both quotes were for labor only.
