G.M. and Chrysler Explore Merger?
#84
I think I remeber reading that if it happened, GM would cut the chrysler cars that crossed over (segment-wise) and if that happened, the minivan and the jeep would be the only things to stay. I think they could sell HUMMER, and replace it with Jeep (possible V8?? )

2 rumor updates
The rumor mill is getting nutty. I think it best to ignore all this till something happens. Here is the latest
Ceberus wants to buy Daimler's stock so it can sell Chrysler
And the other; Ceberus wants to sell Jeep to Renault (say it ain't so)

If Chrysler sells, then they would have to stop production on MANY Chrysler products, because Daimler does own 19.9% still because of the "like" products they have, i.e. 300 with Benz drivetrain etc.

I keep seeing this over and over. I gotta say, it doesn't matter. GM has been using the production ZF transmissions found in Benzs in their vehicles since the late eighties. Every single 5 speed in the 88 to 93 GM pickup is a ZF transmission, just like the ZF 6 speeds in the Corvettes from the same era. I've been out of the GM loop a while now, so they may STILL be using the German stuff. I would bet that they are.

GM really is after the 11 billion in cash Chrysler has. Nameplates with loyal buyers are just icing on the cake. if this goes through, expect the Wrangler and minivan (and maybe the Challenger) to stay and darn near everything else go. They don't need a third truck line, they don't need more sedans, and they certainly don't need any more crossover vehicles.
I am not too sure what Nissan would do with the Chrysler lineup, but then they may not either.
