Default Funky Vibration

Hi All,

I recently started noticing some weird vibrations in my Jeep at low speeds and was wondering if anyone knew what this issue may be. I'll give a scenario to describe the issue.

I'm approaching a red light and slowing down to about 10 MPH. I take the Jeep out of gear and use the brake to stop. The light turns green and not needing to come to a full stop (assume there was no car in front of me) I shift the vehicle back into 2nd gear (assume I'm going the correct speed for this to be done). The Jeep starts to vibrate to the point where the entire vehicle is shaking (also assume for this matter, it is not operator error causing the vibration). If I didn't change anything at that point, it feels as if the engine would conk out. Usually I have to step back onto the clutch and increase the RPM then back off the clutch slower then normal. I have 88K miles on the Jeep and just started feeling this within the past two weeks. I have been driving a manual for about 20 years so I'm pretty confident that I'm not causing this to happen. Any ideas why this may be happening? I'm concerned it may be a transmission issue.

Thanks in advance,
Dom

I've seen something similar, but what RPM are you sitting on when you shift back into 2nd? Anything down on 500 and yes- you'll get the shakes. If you're over 700 then you shouldn't get the shakes but it'll certainly be slow.

I will have to check the RPM next time it happens. It's not a typical "lurch" though when you downshift from a high RPM. The gear engages smoothly (which means to me I am within a decent RPM range) then almost starts to conk out / violently shake.

Thanks,
Dom

Sounds normal to me. Sounds like you're simply going too slow for your gear. What gears are you running and what tire size?

I'm running 33's with 3.73. I know what you are saying that this is normal, but the vibrations are way more then normal at that speed.
