I think it becomes "not a jeep" when the body and/or frame are mostly gone. If you think about it, even though his list is pretty "extreme"..the minute we start modding, we are doing the same thing to a lesser extent.

Of course, which is why I posed the question. Well, and also because I have to wonder if financially it isn't just smarter to build from scratch.

Id probably switch out my steel bumpers and tire carrier for aluminum. Might try the aluminum under armor but I honestly dont know if the weight savings would be worth the sticking/galling. Set of TR wheels. Have a custom cage built to replace the stock crap. I need gears so I would get that done.

More sense financially? Probably, but if you want a Jeep you start with a Jeep. If you want a buggy, you start with tubing. Just my take on it.
