Ledges & rocks/boulders are different. You can hit a ledge on a angle but with boulder fields you don't have that option. You need that tire clearance. Glad you're wheeling that jeep!!!

Right on, hadn't thought about that. Most of what we have in the areas I wheel are limestone ledges, so I guess it depends on your terrain as well.

I will say that many of the full width bumpers, if designed properly, give much more clearance than one would expect. There are some out there that are pretty restrictive, but a lot of them get pretty skinny and high up on the Jeep by time the reach out to the tire.

Sorry for side tracking the thread, as stated above, it really depends on personal preference, and intended use.

Happy Jeeping, y'all!

I ended up with the Smittybilt SRC Gen2 front bumper. It covered all my points for finding a front full width bumper: I like tube bumpers, it has a sunken winch mount, it fits the factory fogs with no wiring changes, it was a direct bolt up, has d-ring mounts and it looked good. The powdercoating is chinese special but has held up well to 2 winters worth of road salt. It is peeling in a few spots where I scraped it (dur) and in front of the tire from some big stone hits.
