Default Full width vs mid width bumper

I am looking at new bumpers and am undecided between full or mid width. It is a weekend driver. Is there anything I should be thinking about when choosing the length or is it just a matter of looks for someone in my position?

I went with full width ARB. I have young kids and like the added protection.

Default Bumper

Start with what you like...appearance, safety, weight, price, fitment. All are important. For me, this time around I went with a mid width. Could not be happier. Did not effect the front suspension, it was only 39 lbs. And the safety of steel going across the front of my Jeep helps. Your decision...

Mainly personal preference when it comes to looks. The weight is a small factor, but probably not the deciding factor. Thinking further down the road.....If you think there's ANY chance you move to a flat fender flare, full width would look a little odd.

I would say the first thing to think about is usage. I live by the Rubicon and I like rocks. I would never get a full width because they don't allow access to big rocks without smashing into them with the bumper. Also considering a winch ? I like my winch mount low in the bumper to allow good air flow to the radiator. Need fog lights in the bumper ?, need recovery points ? if so, make sure what ever you get has accommodations. Want quality ? something where the powder coating will last for years with zero issues?, maybe don't buy cheap Chinese stuff. All that being said, I love my bumper and have had it for probably 7 years or so with no problems at all.

If you're wheeling it then look at use. If you aren't climbing large boulders then a full width or mid width will work. If you're rock climbing then you'll want the clearance a stubby provides. Having you front tires exposed is great on the trail but not the greatest in a front end collision.

PS makes great products. Hard to go wrong with them. You might want to check out the Crawler Conceptz bumpers as well, usually just a tad better on price than PS.

I wheel rocks, and run full width. I have only had one time where I couldn't get up on a ledge, but it also gave the guy in front of me trouble (running a stubby), but also had 38s compared to my 35s.

Pic doesn't show front approach, but shows me going over the ledge.
