Food for thought on 1st year vehicle
#12
This is my second first year ride, the first was an 87 XJ with the then new 4.0 engine, really the XJ body had been around for a while. The day we bought it and drove it home it died and had to be towed in, I thought here we go. It ended up being a bad ECM and they had us up and going the next day. It has never let me down and is still running today with 230,000 miles on it. The dealer and service department can make all the difference in the world. So far the JK has been great, the wife even lets me drive it time to time.

1st year
I will never own a 1st year vehicle, I work too hard for my money to piss it away on something that will break down...
and it WILL break down, its just finding what part.
Patience daniel son!
then buy it!
I had several friends with 1st year vehicles, I don't care who makes them, you can't test EVERYTHING when its not on the ROAD!
the roof leaks?! c'mon! did no one EVER drive this JK in the RAIN before they sold it? what the hell?!
Historically; LAST year models are the most reliable.... look at the Tahoe, suburban, TJ, etc...
msn / autos.
look at the reliability ratings... by the time they get it right, they change everything!
and it WILL break down, its just finding what part.

while alot of that may in fact be true...
.... i dont want to be the one sitting at the back of the crowd just waiting on the dream that whatever comes around the corner next might be better. It may well be, but i would waste a large chunk of fun and my life waiting. Been there, done that. I may take a financial hit, or some aggravation points for it, but that, as they say, is life. I chose to live it now, not the later that never seems to come.
I want to enjoy my life now, not at the end of the current model's lifecycle.
That just isnt who i am.

So basically I think anyone that doesn't buy a first year vehicle for the sole fact that it's a first year is uninformed.

Almost forgot since I still can't believe I own one. But the wife's 2005 Honda Odessey was a complete redesign and it has never been in the shop for more than an oil change with 30,000 miles on it. So I guess the JK will be Number 3 for me. So not all 1st year vehicles are bad and it is alot of fun having the newest toy on the block.

I agree somewhat with what you are saying, however.. the only time my roof leaked was for the first week i owned it (and it wasn't even bad, a drop or two). Finally there was a break in the weather and i took the freedom panels off - - put them back on PROPERLY and haven't seen a drop of water inside since.
With regards to the last model year being the most reliable.. I do agree with that, the 1 in a 1000 problem vehicle may turn into a 1 in 2000; however, just because it was made in the vehicles last model year, doesn't mean there isn't a chance it will be a lemon. As has been said on here many times before, people are more likely to complain about something then comment on how good it is. Then again, I could make a thread that says, "I've owned my JK for 3 months now, and never had a problem"

People just arent interested in hearing good news. That's why the news is so popular, all the death and destruction is up front while the good/human interest stuff is way at the end, after the weather & sports.
