First winter without a garage...
So I'm buying my first house next week and will be leaving behind an apartment where I've had a garage since I bought my jeep.
My dilema... Upstate NY winters can be horrible, and they're calling for a killer this season. I have a soft top and no garage or shelter. Does anyone know how much weight a soft top can handle before the damage begins?
Since I'm draining my savings just for the down payment and closing costs, building a garage before next summer wont be an option. I hear those temporary shelters can easily break and do more damage to the vehicles then the elements. And I really don't have the cash to buy a new hard top.
Any tips, suggestions, ideas? I've already put a post on craigslist looking for a used hard top. Running out of time and ideas
Get you one of those metal awnings for like 695. I think they are 18'x21' for that price. Plenty big enuff for a Jeep.

Just keep a shop broom handy near the JK. See a few inches on the top, use the broom and pull it off.
Besides, the softtop can handle alot of snow for short periods of time. Even if you wake up and there's a foot of snow on it, it's really no biggie.

Same here... bought a house, no more garage... =(
But I got my new JK with a remote starter...
I would definitely invest in a hard top before buying that shelter...
It's way more comfortable, practical, warmer, less noise, etc...
If you unzip that rear plastic window in the winter, you won't be able to zip it back up... And with the hard top, you also have the rear defrost and the wiper... AND.. it's safer to leave stuff in your Jeep with the hard top on...
