First Pentastar Acceleration Numbers

1-3 gears on the automatic are a huge improvement over the 4 speed auto form 2011. I can see where the automatic would appear much more spry than the prior years. Manual is a carry over from last year with a taller 6th gear and minor internal changes - flywheel & cluth components.

I think that the acceleration issue of the 3.8v6 JK is the automatic box

So this is the new logic for 3.8 stick owners. A 20% increase in gearing = "Holy shit it's night and day". A 40% increase in horsepower = "I can't tell a difference". LOL.

How do you come up with a 20% increase in gearing on the manual? It's the same tranny carried over from 2011 with a very minuscule increase in 6th gear??

You will notice that I have been a member of this forum for about 3 years now. I joined when I started looking at getting in a JK in the summer of 08. I test drove a Unlimited Sport with the 6-speed that summer and just couldn't pull the trigger on it because the motor was turd plain and simple. So fast forward three years and Jeep finally puts a decent motor in the JK. I went and test drove an Unlimited Rubi auto weekend before last. I will tell you straight up that the '12 will walk any 07-11 JK, manual/auto, 4.10 gears, big tires, small tires. Doesn't matter. So when people like you get on here and say things like, "I drive an 08 lifted jk on 35s with aftermarket bumper etc.. and I could tell no difference between mine and the stock, much lighter, +83hp JK I just drove", it's comical.

From Motortrend:
"The new engine offers excellent response and a noticeable improvement in power -- the Pentastar is significantly faster from a stop and when passing. Also, the engine sounds much more upscale than the coarse 3.8-liter, and the exhaust note is throatier. Paired with either transmission, it feels much more refined. Where the 3.8 feels pokey, the 3.6-liter actually makes the JK feel spry. Jeep estimates that the new engine reduces 0-60 times by 2-3 seconds with either transmission, and when we took a Wrangler Sport manual to the track, we confirmed this estimate. The new Jeep hit 60 mph in 6.7 seconds, while all of the 3.8-liter Wranglers took between 9.8 and 10.2 seconds."
From the spec box
Two door sport
285hp/260Tq
6 speed
3918lbs
0-60 in 6.7 sec
1/4 mile 15.2@89.1mph!!!
60-0 braking in 135ft
17/21mpg
Woohoo, low 15's stock, it might crack 14's once broke in

I am kind of thinking the same thing. My wifes 09 V6 Malibu does it in 6.4, I find it hard to believe that a Jeep could keep up with it. Either way, if I feel the need to go fast we drive her car, if I feel the need to have fun we take the Jeep. (we never take the car)
