That's exactly what it is! Picked them up cheap at Amazon. Seems like that area, the hood and windshield are what always get peppered with salt and rocks here in WV so thought it would be good cheap protection. Easy to pull back off down the road too.

I think their original purpose is to prevent the "mirror" ding. The one people get when they forget to attach the door restraining strap and then open the door... It swings around and the mirror bashes that part of the cowl. =P

Yep, that too!
I have did that a few times before but never hard enough to dent/ding it. Surprising since these things are made out of recycled beer cans.

Honestly, I like the Flame Red with either the color matched or textured black. It all just boils down to whatever you like the best.
I really liked the red on red and where I live there probably won't be another one around like it (not the reason I bought it). Finding this one was a PITA and like 400 miles away.
