FCA to Increase Jeep Wrangler Production by Roughly 50 Percent
The upgrades to the assembly plant will allow FCA to produce 350,000 Wranglers annually, which is nearly 50-percent more than what is currently being manufactured.

I think the new JL will be an improvement in build quality and engineering. But the outgoing JK is still pretty popular and a lot of people love it for what it is (even though there really are some not-so-great things about its quality).

But it's irrelevant. Jeep is amping up to build 50% more Wranglers to meet demand. There's no reason on earth to waste money on improving quality while demand is far higher than supply. When people quit buying Wranglers because quality stinks, then it may be worthwhile to consider improving quality.
As long as Wrangler owners chalk all poor design and poor quality issues to it being "a Jeep thing", then FCA should just keep doing what they are doing.
Jeep quality is awful and it doesn't matter
