Are fake Rubicons common?
I took my friend to a Toyota dealership since he was trading in a 2005 Tacoma for a FJ and they had a JK on the lot with Rubicon stickers and the Rubicon wheels and tires but it did not have the buttons for the lockers and sway bar disconnect. The guy working at the dealership told us not all Rubicons had lockers and sway bar disconnects. I'm pretty sure he had no idea what he was talking about but he seemed pretty convinced the rubicon package was just and appearance package like the Z71 package on Chevys.

I suspect most of these are created by those used car dealers, hoping to get extra for the vehicle when they sell it. He likely knew it was a fake, especially since it is coded into the VIN (sixth digit is a 6 for real ones).

I've got Rubi take-offs, Rubi springs and shocks on my rig and Sport stickers...it's a sport. The guys there always think it's a Rubi and they work there. I tell them it's a sport. Sounds like someone just traded in a fake and the salesman does not know what he is talking about.
