Default Fact or Fiction

Ok ive heard that mud is like saltwater and over time will eat up all your metals, and it is good to spray down all your undercarriage with WD-40 to protect them. Is this a crock of shit or is it a fact?

Mud can hold moisture against the metal, increasing the rate of corrosion. Depending on where you are the mud can also be acidic or caustic, eating it's way into the paint and exposed metal.

Depends on the mud. Some muds are more acidic than others. Some muds contain a lot of salt.

WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, 40th try. Originally used to protect the Atlas missiles in storage. WD-40:
  • Will protect against rust
  • Will make things (like mud) slide off easer
  • Will clean almost any oil-based spooge
  • Is a very crappy "lubricant"
2 cents.

You'd better start buying it by the case.

Depends on the mud. Some can be very acidic and will eat the heck out of it.

Or by the gallon (non-spray, $15 at Lowe's). Personally, I just power wash the bottom of my Jeep now and then.
