Default Expedition One Rear Tire Carrier - damage warning from company

Has anyone else who owns a Expedition One Rear Bumper and Tire Carrier received this email notice....has anyone experienced any failure to your tire carrier?

IMPORTANT NOTICE JULY 2010
Dear Purchaser of Expedition One’s JK Rear Bumper with Smooth Motion Swing Tire Carrier:
It was recently brought to our attention that an improperly mounted spare tire and/or excessively inflated spare tire (beyond 35 psi) may cause damage to the swing arm part of your tire carrier and could void your warranty.
Whether you installed the bumper and carrier yourself or hired someone to install it, we strongly recommend that you check to make sure that the tire is snug against the swing arm carrier. A tight fit is critical to the integrity of your carrier. If you find that the tire is not snug, please pull the tire and mount plate off the swing arm and check for stress or damage to the swing arm. Also, please check your tire inflation to make sure it does not exceed 35 psi.
In case you or your installer missed it, our installation instructions include the following section: (see http://exp_one.com/JKRB100andSTCinstall.htm)
Installing the tire mount on the carrier:
When installing the tire mount, the overall goal is to have the tire snug against the tire carrier. To do this the best thing is to fit the tire carrier up while on the ground to avoid lifting a heavy tire and wheel repeatedly.
We recommend this method:
1. Lay the tire and wheel face down. Set the tire mount on the backside of the hole pattern.
2. Slide the carrier in place and lay it on the tire. (ref pictures 3A)
3. Make a mark using a marker (or something that you can see) that gives you an indication of the flush mounting point (ref picture 3B).
4. Install the tire mount on the carrier moving it back about ¼ to 3/8" from the marked position [covering your mark]. Use the 3 supplied ½ x 2" bolts with washer and nylock nut. The tire should now fit snug on the carrier when installed.
We also recommended watching our youtube install video:
We want you to enjoy many years of use with your Expedition One Rear Bumper and Smooth Motion Tire Carrier System. Please take a few minutes to check your tire mount and swing arm for a snug secure fit, and check your tire inflation. Should you have any questions about the fit of your tire/carrier, feel free to contact us at info@expeditionone.biz or call 877-366-3099.
Happy Traveling!

Thanks for the heads-up. I've been looking at this carrier/bumper for a while now.

I've had zero problems with mine so far, but it's only been a month....I'm guessing any potential failure of the swing arm would be due to improper installation.....like having your larger tire hanging way out from the actual carrier causing a moment arm, instead of tight up against it.

its a great bumper and carrier. Over a year and no problems, install something wrong and you end up with problems, can happen to the best of equipment.

just wish some day they would come out with a jerry can mount.

Default No damage here - Great Bumper

Got the notice, but no problems with mine. Works great! I installed this bumper/carrier by myself in Dec '09. Very heavy bumper (shipping weight was 167lbs...interesting solo install). Carrier is great and smooth. The carrier correctly aligned the first time. Reading the instructs, the various posts and watching the video helped. Highly recommend this product.

I too would like to see a Jerry Can add-on
