Default Esp

Just thought I'd share a bit of a hair raising experience this morning and tout the ESP. Driving the interstate in PA going the speed limit. I come to slowed traffic and get in the right hand lane to exit. I hit my brakes and realize I'm on a bridge that is a sheet of ice going 55 MPH and have to use the exit ramp. My heart jumps to my throat and the ESP kicks in. It was a little weird at first because I felt like I had no control, but all the while the vehicle took control and kept me from loosing it. Can't say the same for 5 other vehicles that didn't have ESP. Maybe I was lucky, but the program worked like it supposed to in real conditions. Just another reason why I love my JK.

Default good story

I have to admit that just recently, I was taking a banked turn on a twisting forest road a lot sharper than I should have been (hadn't driven that road in the Jeep yet, and had last driven it in my traded WRX)... the ESP kept me on the road, and probably kept me from a close encounter with a tree...

On the other hand, there have been some times when I've been a little pissed about it kicking in when I'm TRYING to have fun (wet conditions where I want to kick out the rear end a bit, etc.), but all in all, it's already proven itself worthwhile for ME (and saved me from myself).

ESP saved me too, last night (4/5/07) . It was 70 here in PA last week now its snowing. So i'm headin home from the slots in WV on rt.70 doing the speed limit, 70mph ( still in WV ) and cross over an overpass that had a slight bend in it while reaching for my pepst and ... here we go, that thing was solid ice. Let off the brake and kept the front wheels headin where i wanted to be ... on the road. It felt like a long slide but was probably a few seconds and it was over. Never left my lane or spilled my pepsi. There was a small S-10 or ranger (didn't have time to stare) off the road in the meadian, i saw him get back on the road after i made the bend. I do alot of "practice" (fun) sliding on ice in empty parking lots so i know how to handle it, but at 70mph i'm sure that ESP had alot to do with keeping me on the road.
ESP has 3 settings right?
ON
push for "partial" ON
hold buttin for 5 sec. for OFF ... is this correct?
