Default engine wont start after water in intake

hit some water today and hydrolocked the wrangler.

engine wont crank now. symptoms are...

all electrical seems to be a-ok. dask lights work fine, interior lights, radio, yadda yadda.

battery was fine, i had to use the winch to partially get it pulled up on a gooseneck trailer. just to make sure we tried to jump it off and no-go.

when i turn the key i hear the starter solenoid click once then nothing.

i have a really good lead on something, but i dont want to throw it out there and skew any possible solutions you guys have.

help?

a free beer for your troubles.

Had a friend hydrolock his motor last fall and your situation sounds excatly what happened to him. Your initial thoughts seem right. Sorry to hear the bad news. Goodluck!

Default Seen this before

We play in the Platte River in NE a lot in the summer running through water deep enough to cover a jeep and see a lot of Hydro-lock issues. Pull your plugs turn the motor over you should see plenty of H2o shooting out of a couple cylinders or plug holes. The head scratcher is how dirty was the water that you went through.
Let me know how it turns out

well, let me add that the engine wont even attempt to turn over. its like the starter isnt trying to turn it over.

and ya, my buddy said thats the first step once i figure out how to get it to turn over. ill be borrowing his spark plug sockets tomorrow.

the water wasnt nasty dirty water... not muddy at all.

next once i get this straightened out? snorkel.

Default Dont even try to pull start

I would hold off on anything until you pull the plugs, it sounds like at least cylinder is full of water on the compression stroke (valves closed) and forcing movement can result in an unfavorable outcome (bent connecting rods & ect.).

Here is what we did to a friends jeep on our last outing. Pull the spark plugs. Disconnect the fuel pump. dry all spark plugs and area best you can. pull your air filter out make sure it's dry. if its wet leave it out. put the spark plugs back in. with fuel pump disconnected turn over the engine. watch and see if water shoots out. Reconnect fuel pump. And keep trying to crank over. That's basically what we did and after a few tries it started. Maybe you could try and turn it over without a spark plugs in. But that's it more less what we did.

Sorry to hear about the Jeep! Unfortunately these things usually don't turn out good.

First thing you have to do is pull those spark plugs, disconnect the fuel pump (or pull its fuse) and then try crank the engine over. Stay clear and don't do it in your garage because there will be a mixture of fuel and water spraying out of the spark plug holes!!

You might get lucky but you should know pretty quickly if you have bent connecting rods. If you don't hear anything clanking or making terrible noises put the spark plugs back in, reconnect fuel pump (or insert fuse) and try to start the Jeep.

Good luck!!

PS - if you are going to play in the water you need a snorkel!
