This "duh moment" happened to me in my old YJ rag top. I had the top down and drove into an absolute downpour, the kind where the street gutters can't handle the flow.
I pulled over and raised my top, but decided since the rain was coming straight down, I wouldn't bother with the front or rear side windows.
I get back in the Jeep, drive to the edge of the parking lot to pull out, and a tractor trailer comes speeding down the road, right into a huge puddle that had built up, and sent what felt like a swimming pool right into my face.
Of course, after that I just kept going. I was wet from head to toe, the side windows weren't going to do me any good at that point.

lucky it was a fiberglass hood and didn't dent when it flew up.
