Doe anyone else find hill start assist to be too intrusive?
Does anyone else have this problem?
When trying to reverse, even on the slightest of hills, the hill start assist will cut in and over power the throttle. The front brakes lock up and you can feel the jeep dig in because the rear wheels are trying to drag the front. It gets to the point where i need to get heavy on the accelerator to get it to budge, or else ill just stall.
Don't say its because I dont know how to drive stick, Ive driven manual cars since I was 13. Im looking for other jk'ers experiences on the subject.

So far the hill start assist has been basically invisible on my 2010 Unlimited 6 speed, I haven't noticed any problem. There is a hill right at the end of my street where I have to stop for a stop sign; no trouble taking off from a dead stop on the hill. Maybe the hill start is helping me out there? I have not attempted to deliberately use the hill assist feature, just drive it like previous standard shift vehicle.
I have not put it in reverse at the top of that hill yet either.

might be a stupid question....
are you trying to reverse up the hill or down? I wonder if just releasing the brake and touching the gas with the clutch in and a forward gear would let it go. then you could back up....or maybe that makes no sense.

I should have pointed this out. Its when reversing up a hill. For some reason there are alot of off camber parking spots by me and i always have trouble pulling out.

If you don't like the way the hill assist works I believe there's a way to turn it off, a quick search will yield an answer I believe.
EDIT: Here you go, if you wish
HSA Off
If you wish to turn off the HSA system, follow this
procedure:
1. Start with the engine off and vehicle in PARK (automatic
transmission) or NEUTRAL with clutch out
(manual transmission) with wheels straight. Apply parking
brake on manual transmission vehicle.
2. Start the engine.
3. With the engine running, the brake applied, and the
clutch out, rotate the steering wheel 180° counterclockwise
from center.
4. Press ESP OFF switch four times within twenty seconds.
5. Rotate the steering wheel 360° clockwise (180° clockwise
from center).
6. Cycle ignition switch OFF then ON.
7. If the sequence was completed properly, the “ESP/
TCS Indicator Light” will blink several times to confirm
HSA is off.
Steps 1-7 must be completed within 90 seconds to turn off
HSA. Repeat steps 1-7 to re-enable HSA functionality.

the hill start assist on the jeep is not very good, we have had it on several BMW's and as you release the clutch a small way the assist lets go. it appears that the jeep system is on a timer, it holds for a few seconds no mater what, havn't found to many areas where it is of much use. jeep need to improve it.

I turned mine off the day after I brought the jeep home. Seem's like something good for beginners, but if your used to using the clutch to hold your position on an incline it is just frustrating.
