I'd be in it for the mileage. I'd be happy with the Fiat 2.4L I-5 207HP-300FT/LBS or the new 2.8L. If someone has a second maybe they could find the link for the newer 2.8L, I think its like 20% more efficient.
I don't care for a V-6, Jeeps aren't hot rods and 215-260Hp and 450ftlbs is just overkill, the diesel premium would be higher with the V6, the drivetrain would need upgrades, the curb weight would ballon and the mpgs wouldnt be much better than the pentastar w/6spd.

Thanks for all the signatures!
Be sure to tell your friends about it.
The current rumor mill is suggesting the 3.0 VM/Fiat has been certified for US emissions and will be appearing in the Grand Cherokee in a couple of years.
It makes 406 ft. lbs of torque and 34 mpg highway in the GC.
We need to get the word out and get this into the Wrangler!

Solid low-end torque extremely low down in the rev range will be a HUGE improvement for crawling. This is often stated as one of the major benefits for diesel 4x4s.
Not to mention extremely good mileage in those conditions too.

I signed the petition and would very likely buy one as soon as it is available but since I just ordered my 2012 I can wait the few years it will take to get the Fiat diesel into the Wrangler.

Was it the 200HP-340FT/LBS model they sell now?? I think it's a healthly jump from the 170/295 model sold recently.

That would be a nice upgrade. I have driven quite of few of the Military J8 diesels and that little 2.8CRD seems even more anemic than our current 3.8L gas engines. There was little apparent torque increase and it seemed to have as hard a time holding any kind of speed on hills, just like the 3.8L. I hope you are correct about the FIAT motor
Previously, I've heard the 2.8 is a nice torque upgrade from the 3.8 (I've never driven a 2.8)

I have trained and/or trained with the soldiers in the countries that use the J8's. I have worked in the middle east for over 27 years and have had the opportunity to drive all the good, bad, and ugly vehicles they have used and in all configurations.
