Do I really need a 4-door and other important questions?

Not sure if it's just an option or not, but I've seen pics of the '08 Liberty with a "skyview" canvas top (think full-length canvas sunroof). If it's standard, there goes the "security."
My 2-door has more than enough room for my wife and I - we took it out to Chicago this summer with a bunch of suitcases and whatnot, and had room left over (this is with the backseat out).
Do you NEED a 4-door? No, you don't. Do you NEED a Jeep? No, you don't. But you're not gonna be happy driving a 'Yota Yaris or some other econobox... you WANT a Jeep, and you know it! Now you just have to talk your rational side into allowing the purchase!
Edit: I checked, and see that the "Skywview" top is an option. This would be a cool option, but again, there goes your security. Still, you may want to consider a Liberty or a Patriot, especially if you're not planning on frequent/heavy offroading...

Why are you asking strangers what would be best for you. Only you know what you really want and need. Pick what you like the most.
But don't get silver if you get a 4dr wagon.

I like to get other opinions before I make a big decision like this. I really want the Wrangler and don't think I'd be really happy with anything else but all the problems I'm reading about have kept me from getting one. I'm sure you guys love them but I don't want to have to live at the dealer's service area. But when I do get one it's probably going to be silver... or black... or maybe steel blue... ah hell, pretty much anything except yellow.

I just went through the same thing you are going through!
I was trying to decide between the 08 Unlimited and the 08 Liberty...I drove both and they are both NICE!
I chose the Unlimited.....something about it just feels GOOD! Plus there are a TONNE of Liberty's out there.....I have 2 kids and I still opted for the 4 dr Wrangler....I cant wait to get it....I mean where else can you get a
CONVERTIBLE SUV! (mind you by the time I get it and wont be able to take the top or the doors off....It will be toooo DAMN COLD!)
I bought it and it will be my everyday car....yes gas mileage sucks...but LOOK at it....WHO CARES!!!!
GO with what you think is best...my wife even chose the Wrangler...she drove home one night and counted all the Liberty's on the road and said I dont want one now.....
PLUS you wont get the JEEP wave in the Liberty

Every car maker out there has its issues, especially with first model year vehicles. What you may want to take into account is how common the issues are. There doesn't seem to be too many problems with the wrangler coming from left field, which allows the manufacturer to concentrate on those issues for the second model year.
My father bought a brand new 1999 Chevrolet silverado in November of 1998. Sure, he had a few problems, and had to go to the dealership for a few fixes over the course of a year or two, but after those fixes, it has been going problem free since this summer, when it was totalled in an accidet.
My mother bought a brand spankin new Highlander when they first came out. It too, has been in and out of the shop for little quibbles and recalls here and there. In fact, it just got out of the shop this weekend for a broken power window module (Repair invoice: $700, covered by her extended service plan). And Toyotas are supposedly known for their superb reliability... Although it's proven no better than the American Silverado. In both cases, the problems would have left nobody stranded. But, the Japanese car was WAY more expensive to repair.
Anyways, I'm rambling. There are issues with the Wrangler. Some seem to have been resolved, and others, I'm sure, are being resolved as we speak. If you're THAT concerned about the Wrangler's known issues, stay away from it. BUT do your research first. Probe around, and see what issues the new 2008 libertys are having. Find out what the difference is between repair costs on the two. If investing your money is important, look at resale values. For american cars, the wrangler holds its value unlike any other. It seems to even surpass Accords by some resale value websites. And Do your research. I'm sure you'll find dirt on any car.
