Here's an email I got from DC after submitting a question:
Dear John:
Thanks for contacting Dr.Z. Your message has been forwarded to us for
response.
At this time DaimlerChrysler has not released any official information
regarding the selling of the Wrangler CRD for the USA market. However,
with constantly shifting market trends I would hesitate to discount the
possibility of new products on the horizon, specifically designed to
suit your needs. Please feel free to check back with us and your local
dealership periodically for future updates.
If you have further questions, please feel free to reply to this email.
You may also call us on our toll-free number at 1-800-964-0600.
Vielen Dank for your "Z"mail.
Sincerely,
Robin

I translate this to yes, we're going to release a CRD, but we don't know enough of the details yet to tell you.

Okay, as some of you may already know, DC is planning to release a 2.8L direct-injection, Common-Rail Diesel Engine but for export only. Now, from what I've been told by a somewhat reliable sources is that this diesel power plant is most likely to become available in California JK', if not the entire U.S., as early as 2008 in an effort to meet new U.S. CAFE standards. Now, while I am a fan of diesel engines, this one does seem to be a bit on the small side but I do have to admit, with gas prices as high as they are now, maybe it's just what I need. Anyone else have an insider that can verify this?
Other sites/forums have discussed a 4.7L 6 cylinder by cummins.
Any verification of this option?

Now I just wish I could afford building this.![naw](https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/images/smilies/icon_naw.gif)
I am guessing 40k built - What ever happened to Mopar's crate diesels??

The Jeep site in the UK states fuel economy is a combined 28 mpg!
I'll be in the market for a Jeep in very early 2010, and I would definately get a CRD version!
