It was offered in 07 and 08. During those years it made up less than 8% of GC sales. Most reviews said that it was nice, but at a base of 39k (6 years ago mind you), you might as well buy the Mercdes Benz the engine came from. The vehicle was dropped after only 2 years because Daimler-Chrysler did not want to find a way to utilize the $4000 exhaust system to pass new regulations.

Again, I am sure you and your neighbor enjoy them, but people obviously weren't lining up for them.
I don't understand ..... why are you posting on the diesel engine thread if you're down on them
Yah they're a great engine option for those of us that tow and travel through mountainous areas or for whatever reason when low RPM torque is desirable.
Great 10% GCs (or WKs) were sold in north America-Around the rest of the world 10% were gas fueled.
I wouldn't expect not more than 10% of Wrangler owners would opt for diesel but if the rest of the world can own one why the hell not here? Might want to talk to the uneducated tree hug... in..Cali....that lobby their cong..... for CAFE..

BTW what's up with 2WD Wranglers In the US that you don't find anywhere el...in the world......

To update this thread they priced the cheapest 4X4 GC diesel at $41,300, I'm not sure if that includes destination or not. As I posted before it sure does look like it will cost $40K plus to have a diesel wrangler. I'm starting to hope for a lighter(cheaper) option than the Italian 3.0L, like a 2.2L made in Trenton. Mercedes new 2.1L makes 197hp and 369 ftlbs. Plenty for a 4000lb JK with an eight speed.
