There is a thread here that covers this:
https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/stoc...-193311/page9/
I highly recommend reading the entire thread and making your own decision since you will eventually get to the pluses and minuses of each suggestion.....or you can PM me and I'll give you my cliff notes.
I just posted some pics in that thread, currently on the last page of where I used "Detail Doctor". One of the pics shows my gas filler area. I had wax on that around the edges, which I will have to assume is similar to the problem you're having and as you can see from my pics it's gone after just wiping it on. It's suppose to last for up to a year.
Detail Doctor fits the following criteria:
- Lasts for months
- Restores faded and stained plastic trim
- It's not a stain
- Does not leave a glossy look or oily residue
Most of the recommendations others have suggested, leave a shiney/oily look or don't last very long, or is a stain if it does last.
Wipe New also came with recent high recommendations.

Get a good medium bristle brush and some strong degreaser and thoroughly scrub the plastic down. Rinse and repeat a few times them follow it up with some isopropyl alcohol diluted 1:1 As a final wipe down. If anything comes off the trim with the IPA wipe down its not thoroughly ready for any trim product and has residual stuff still on it. If you want a good degreaser for everything on your jeep I recommend getting a gallon of Meguiars Super Degreaser, cuts through everything but the nastiest of grime. Some places sell it in a 32 oz "sampler" I think.
