Very well might have been the same issue. Any ideas...other than more extinguishers....on what to do to prevent it?

Woods has come up with a relocation bracket for the evap canister. If that is causing it? Can't hurt.

Ok Im confused. The thread you linked to detailed a guy backing up on a gravel road, but I saw another one where the jeep burnt on the side on a highway. I will try to find that.

HOLY SH!T!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your JK but I am glad to hear you're okay. Just out of curiosity, do you have an automatic and did you per chance hear a ding sometime before this occured?

Glad you are alright. I hope the insurance company doesnt give you a hard time since you were offroad when it happened. I know a couple people that ran into issues with them paying because the vehicles were being used offroad. I know it is a bad practice for the insurance company, but just be careful how much you tell them.

First of all, I'm glad you are ok. Please keep us informed as to the cause when it's found out.
Second,
Woods has come up with a relocation bracket for the evap canister. If that is causing it? Can't hurt.
Chrysler should be looking into this hot and heavy and come out with a safety recall if there is a defect!

Yes it is an automatic, but I don't remember hearing a ding. I did notice the rpm fluctuation between 500 and 1500 rpms, the air condition stopped blowing cold air and the engine was over heating. At this point I decided that I should drive to the main grade and the engine died.

FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA (NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION)!!!!

Here is the link:

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

They will investigate. Recalls have happened on cases involving very few fires. I think they may take inferno vehicles seriously for some reason.

IF ANY OF THE PREVIOUS INFERNO'S DIDN'T FILE A COMPLAINT, DO IT NOW!! While Chrysler didn't seem to provide satisifaction previously, NHTSA will take it seriously and has the $$ to investigatge and find out exactly what happened.

and just to get the point accross: FILE A COMPLAINT!!
