Default Demand for JK still high?

With all the terrible numbers out about vehicle sales, how has the demand been lately for the JK? Is it still strong or is it dropping dramatically like all the others?

Judging by the latest prices I've heard dropping around here... demand is down. Some lucky bastard just picked a 08 Unlimited Rubi for $25,000. I paid $20,000 back in July for my base 08 Wrangler X. And that was a good deal at the time!

I paid 26.5K including tax, title, tags for a 2009 unlimited half door rubicon last week. Every option you can get with the half doors.

That is less than I paid for my 07 2dr rubicon when I got it.

Demand is down for sure... most dealers have way more inventory than they can get rid of... and its not necessarily because of a lack of buyers or good prices... Most all lenders have tightened the belt severely on financing so many who wouldve qualified for a loan a year ago either 1] dont qualify now, or 2] qualify but instead of say a 9% or 10% rate they are getting approved on a 25%!!! rate which makes their payment so high they cant afford to buy new...

Buy here / pay here lots are experiencing a surge in sales as a result....

there are several articles about this in "automotive news" a 'rag' for car dealers and people in the industry..

the other thing is many buyers are buying more practical cars as opposed to something fun.

and yet other segments are afraid they may lose their job so they are keeping their current car..

and of course those that feel gas will be $5 a gallon before the end of 2009....

its not just wranglers in the hurt, its everything automotive right now...

and though you and I and most on this board use our wrangler as a primary vehicle and find it practical.. there is a large segment of the population that buys them as a recreational vehicle and those people are keeping their wallets close to their chest right now....

the other thing is that the JK has bene out long enough to start hitting the Used car floors now too.. and many of them sweet low mileage trades or short term lease trades.. and that car segment is doing fairly well.. (low miles, late model used).. people that bought them as a regular 'SUV' and then didnt like them... gas mileage too low, too noisy, not comfy enough, etc and so its not uncommon at all to find a JK, esp a 4 door hard top with less than 15k miles on it in showroom condition and a lot less pricey than new...

As soon as financing is taken care off and the dealer and I work out a price, I'll be driving home a new '08 4dr Rubicon. Sticker is $33765, trying to get it out the door for $28,000.

IDK I tried to trade in my Accord for a 4dr two weeks ago and the dealer wanted to keep it. Since he had about 40 2008 Wranglers I figured he might want to sell at least one of them b4 2009. O'well

Knew a Phoenix was coming but have not seen hp ratings anywhere. Where did you find the figures at? That would be great at 280.
