I appreciate the feedback.
I understand the dealership is not a charity and is making a buck somewhere in this transaction.
It could be:
1. Dealer buys a used 2007 for $18k, sells it for $25k on the lot
2. Dealer gets an incentive from Chrysler to buy the used Jeeps with lifetime powertrain
3. Chrysler gets another year or two of payments out of a customer
From my perspective though, as long as my payments remain constant and I don't pay out of pocket for this deal, and I go home in a 2011 with full warranty, it seems like a no-brainer.
What other pitfalls could there be? What am I not seeing? Higher taxes & insurance costs? Tax, tag, & title is going to be rolled in the final deal.

I wish someone would call me saying they'd like to buy my Jeep and put me in a rubicon with the same payments.. so I could tell em' to kiss my ass!
Sounds sketchy.

I don't think the dealer would put 25k on a 2007 X. Not knocking it, bc that's what I have, it's just that the 07 Rubi has a KBB value of 22-23k.
As for the tactic the dealer is using, I just got a flyer from Ford looking to buy back my F150 that I have since traded for the wifemobile. All that said, if you want the 2011, and your good with an extra year of payments, it seems like a good deal for you!

This type of stuff is happening. Birmingham dealer paid off and then some on my 2007 2dr JK and I got a 2010 JKU for a lower monthly payment than I had with the 2 dr. With free GPS to boot. Also, I did have the lifetime power train warranty. Now i have the 100,000 mile warranty, but I am in a 2010 JKU instead of a 2dr. I love the extra room.

I have lifetime warranty but dealer probably has me flagged for mods by now.
I would trade for a new Rubi if dealer swaps all my aftermarket parts for free!

It is the complexity that causes ALL the issues. When I go to the dealer two things I need to know.
How much is the 'new' Jeep: $28,000
How much is the Trade In: $13,000
--------------------------------------------
Loan Amount: $15,000
Just keep asking for these two values until you get them. The 'i can get you in the car for ....' is just crap. If you end up getting the information; tell the dealer that you will think about it. Take the loan amount and go up to the Jeep site and 'play' with the figures. That will get you VERY close to what you would actually pay. Take into account Shipping/tax/etc....

Every single time I've had a new(ish) vehicle for more than about 2 years, the dealers wanted to "buy it back" ... "Dealers in <your area> are desperate for used <make> <model>! Top dollar paid! Call now!"
Actual trigger: Your credit checked out well enough for a new loan.
